We all know or have a Vanessa in our life, don’t we? She’s Lucy’s childhood friend in, All Signs Lead To Lucy, my latest release. She’s the one who smiles at you and then passive aggressively steals half the cake sitting on your plate because she didn’t want to seem like a pig and order her own. And you let her do it, because she’d conditioned you since you were in the second grade that this is how it worked. Which makes, according to reviews, some readers a bit upset. Why would Lucy continue to let this girl dominate her? It’s simple, it’s learned behavior. And Lucy is just a peacemaker anyway. Know any of those? My mother is one. She can’t stand strife. She’s willing to do almost anything to keep the peace.
Vanessa is a self-made girl. Well, she is an opportunist. Does that make her self-made? Hmm…not sure. She certainly works the system, works the room, and then usually gets what she wants. And don’t people typically not like these sorts? Yet, Vanessa is the one getting it done. Moving up the charts. Doing something with her life. While all the haters, who do nothing to improve themselves, can’t stand the advancement.
She’s a real estate agent. She’s goes on listing appointments and always comes back with a signed agreement. She moved to California because she hated the heat and bustle of New York. She needed fine wine, elegant outdoor parties, and the ocean. That’s where she met Martin. And she thinks she’ll keep him. His portfolio is well kept and promising. Not like the drop dead gorgeous ‘boy’s she’s dated that can’t seem to get it together. No, she will forgo her age group and cast her net in the older pool. And then invite her childhood best friend on a trip to meet his mother. But nothing will ever be the same after it’s over.
Clever hook and so true.
