The other day I was attempting to look for hairstyles with my son for his new cut. He replied that he wanted something that other people liked. Of course, not me so much. But his peers. I was taken aback, quite frankly. You want a style other people would find pleasing? Are you kidding? What about you? He looked at me and said, “Don’t even. Every time you dress to go out…you dress, wear makeup, and do your hair to please others.” No I don’t! I wear this stuff and do my makeup because of what I like. Don’t I? I mean, it’s a pain to do this every day, am I right? All those lovely people on the streets wearing their pajamas…did they just give up? Don’t care? Think this is cool? I’m not exactly at that point, but how would we really accessorize if we were pleasing ourselves? Furthermore, who is in charge of the styles? Take the 80’s for example. I enjoyed that look. The crazy hair, the layers, the leg warmers (leg warmers?)…watching Stranger Things reminded me of this fact. Or was I just nostalgic for the time, itself? But think about it. Who says that’s done and this is in? Do a group of people just begin doing it and pass it around? Like that game, Did you Hear? You pass a secret from someone to someone else and before you know it…people have got the wrong message in their ear and they’re wearing their pants below their drawers. I’m certain this was misheard, for sure. Who could keep this up? Not literally, but if I had to fight the exact measure of keeping my pants at this level, I think I’d just stay inside.

I hope I get more confidence in myself to just truly dress for myself. Not care about what’s in. But dress for what I like. There are so many styles. The dresses of ‘I love Lucy’ would definitely be one of the styles. And what about hats? I don’t look the most flattering, but I could give it a try. I might get a look here and there, but who knows, it just might catch on!

Continue having a great week, friends! And wear something for you. Even if it’s that ring trapped in your drawer that you admired because you love frogs.
