Sometimes on Friday we actually do what we plan and watch a movie! I did just that this past Friday. I selected A Family Affair. I’d seen the trailer and thought it was something completely…okay, not completely, but different than what it was. I sort of got the impression the daughter was in love with him, too. But, twas not the case.

So, first off, let me just say that watching these actors age before my eyes was incredibly difficult to watch. Forget the story, I just kept wondering what feature Nicole had enhanced…reminiscing on Zac’s high school days, and what? Is that her hand? Turns out you can youthenize (is that a word) the face, but when her hands came into view, wow! Rewind that. And I am by no means a spring chicken with model hands. It just took me off guard. I mean you have the captivating eyes, the not-a-smidge-of-fat on that body, and then the hands. Hands cannot lie. Because basically they cannot be enhanced past lotion, I guess. Thank goodness I could find  one thing out of place! Oh, and the wig. Nice to know my wig shopping a few weeks ago isn’t so unheard of.

I digress. It’s just that when one of the legends comes out to perform, I like to take stock at what father time has done to them. So back to the movie. It was fine. Yes, fine. Nothing earth shattering. No real moments of total I-Love-That. Just fine. The mom begins an affair with the daughter’s boss, the daughter is against it, there is some backstory about Nichole’s husband that isn’t flattering, and Zac with his issues of commitment. You have the protective mother thing going, where she’ll end everything to protect the girl, however she dips her toe into the what-if and gets trapped again by his lure and loveliness. Because let’s face it. The guy is older, less boyish lean, but he’s become oh, so maturely hot. He didn’t exactly sweep me up in his role, but enough to get me through it. The girl was very humorous. I laughed out loud when she walked in on them. Her moment of awareness was truly authentic.

In short, (in case you skimmed to down here) the movie was a complete story. It had the beginning, the middle, the let’s think on it and pivot for a moment, and the solid ending. Although it was hard to believe the two would walk off into the sunset together. I mean stranger things have happened. I have relatives that still make me scratch my head that are going strong.

One last shoutout to Kathy Bates. She continues to deliver. Her character was nothing short of scratch-deep, but she is still working! And that is something. I’ve been a big fan of hers throughout her career.

Overall, a C+ movie. Kept me entertained. Didn’t evoke any thoughts past the screen time, and it wrapped up nicely.

Have a great week!
