By definition, binge means excessive, and we all know that anything in excess is not a good thing. But, last weekend I became somewhat of a sloth on Sunday. I sat in front of my television and binge watched Army Wives. It’s my new find. I purchased it during Christmas while buying a gift for my son. Quite a bad habit of mine. One for you, two for me. I know, right? Christmas? It’s all about giving, but it was there…and half off. So, nothing lost. And, I do mean nothing lost. It wasn’t long after I started watching that I became hooked. I needed to see the next one. But, as I preach to my kids about self control of one episode of whatever a day, so did I follow suit. That was until last Sunday. I watched like five episodes in a row. Yikes!! Okay, so first for those who don’t know me, I rarely sit long enough for this to take place. I’m usually washing clothes, ironing shirts, cleaning the kitchen, organizing the closet…something. But, after a long week at work, I became vegetative. It was wonderful while it lasted. Then, I rolled off the chair and realized what’d happened. All of my day was gone. The sun was moving below the horizon and everyone was winding down. What had I done? Suddenly I became regretful. Sure, I knew Claudia Joy had survived the car accident, Jeremy was coming home, and Trevor wasn’t getting deployed. But, what about the day. It was lost forever. Soon it would be time to go to sleep and get up to do it all again. And all I had was the itinerary of all the characters on Army Wives.
I suppose it’s alright to do this once in a blue moon, but I can’t see myself losing precious hours again by becoming moulded into my chair. Plus, one episode a day still gives me something to look forward to. Anyone else watching during the airing of the show has to wait a week. And, one a day is completely sufficient. After all, it’s the only television I watch.
I’ll try not to feel bad about it. But, I know that there is so much more out in the world to appreciate. It only takes an hour to shake the trembles for loading the next episode. Get past that and you’ve beat the addiction for the day. I believe it should be a treat, not a captor.
I call my TV binges “marathons.” LOL. I blame it on Netflix. I got all caught up on TV shows I’d never known existed. Or past seasons of shows I hadn’t seen before. One summer I watched the entire X-Files. Another summer it was The Vampire Diaries. Now Netflix has all these original series. I also subscribe to Amazon Prime and Hulu plus because I don’t have a DVR. I watch a lot of TV, and there are so many shows I want to watch. I’ve been reading much more lately though.
It’s so easy to get caught up in them, especially if it’s something that has all the seasons out. I’m getting caught up on Downton Abbey. When I do, it’ll get frustrating having to wait each week to see the next one:) For some reason, I don’t feel as guilty when I read too much!
Same 🙂 I love Downton Abbey. Too bad next season is going to be the last of the series.
I say we all sign a petition for them to continue it. 🙂 Supernatural is still going strong after ten seasons. Why can’t the Abbey?
That would be nice 🙂 But the director signed with NBC to do “The Gilded Age,” based on the Edith Wharton novel. So, you know how we Americans are, always want to capitalize on a good thing. Downton Abbey had a good run and so many viewers. Sad to see it go.
It’s definitely easy to get caught up. I watched 2 Netflix movies back to back yesterday. I’m so tired when I come home from work doing the week, that I fall asleep before a movie is over. We don’t watch much regular TV as a family. Most stuff that’s on is garbage in my opinion. Can’t wait for football to start up again😊
Amen! I think television has gone to crap, too. There used to be a time when the television was on during primetime you could feel comfortable about your children watching whatever. Now, everything should be banned, I feel. Morals don’t exist in TV land, and I have to review everything before they’re allowed to watch it. Football will be here before you know it!
You definitely shouldn’t feel bad for binging every once in a while. I don’t binge often, but when I do, here’s how I ease the guilt — I paint my toenails while I watch, fold laundry, wrap Christmas presents, you know, the mindless sit-in-one-spot stuff. Fo course, that only lasts so many episodes…
You know, I don’t think I’ll give myself such a hard time anymore. Everyone needs a break. It’s not like I do it every day…for that matter, not even once a week. Thanks for the reality check:) I feel better already!
I’m starting to love this show my mom got t the full season on DVD and I’m kinda hooked on it, and I love roxie I think she is so awesome,
I would agree! I’m on season 5 now. And as fate would have it, my new boss’ name is Roxie:) She’s awesome, too.
Sweet, I love Trevor I think he is so cute
His is, and it might be my age showing, but I like Michael:) I think because he’s so loyal to Claudia Joy. That goes a long way with me!
Iknw I would agree with you on that, I would like to have a husband like that who is loyal to me and loves me for who I am no matter what circumstances comes our way like when their daughter Amanda died he stayed with her and helped her get through that horrible event in their lives when he could have walked away from her and given up on her and his family and went back to war and avenged his rage on some innocent civilian or Taliban solider which wouldn’t have solved any problems at home he chose to stay with his wife and other daughter and basically put the pieces back together for him and his family now that shows true love don’t you think?
Absolutely agree! He’s such a stand-up kind of guy.
So how long have you been watching army wives
I actually stopped watching when I read a spoiler on the next box. Since I don’t like unhappy endings, I refused to buy another season! I like living in denial and I imagine they all moved to the same base and lived happily ever after:)
