Ever Feel Existential?

I thought I was the only one that got these roaming thoughts. That was until my daughter came to me and said some of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. She’s just like me!! Things have her weirded out. Like her name, for example. She thought, ‘why do I come when someone says these 2 syllables?’ I rolled, laughing. She was dead serious when she asked me. At least I’m not the only ninny in the room. LOL  I think sometimes how this brain…this thing folded up piece of matter, like some type of science project I’ve left too long in the fridge, can remember numbers, how to drive with both my foot and hand respectively, think back to when I was five and how my mom’s house smelled when she cooked salmon cakes. Weird stuff like this. I believe Jim Carrey is going through this phase full time now.

Yes, it’s November. Again. And it will fly just like all the rest of the months of this year have flown by. It’s like I go to bed, rotate twice, and the alarm clock goes off again. Then Fridays whiz by, and Sundays keep me whining for more of a weekend to enjoy. And before I know it, all those Christmas projects I have in bags, waiting for me to sew or make for gifts, will get tossed back in the closet or thrown together in one weekend. Although, I must pat myself on the back for this one deed I’ve just done. I’ve bought like 3 presents already. This is truly amazing. Not sure why, but I did. Now not to hide it from myself and discover it at Easter when I’m searching for the candy I’ve hidden from my children. LOL

Drum roll please….my new book is near completion! That’s right, you read that correctly. I’m super thrilled. I get thrilled over all of them. It’s a lovely thing when you can pet, admire, and get jazzed about your own creativity. This one, I do hope, will not upset anyone. Ha, ha, ha. It’s messy, don’t get me wrong. It has to be messy. That’s what I do. If it’s not messy, it’s not true to life. But I don’t dangle anyone from a cliff, I don’t make you question the integrity of someone you love from page 5 thru 185, and I don’t…well, let’s see, I do a little. Oh, just trust me. I’m getting better at pleasing the masses. Want to know what it’s about? Okay, just a little hint.   Second chances. Everyone loves those, right? I do. But this is more than one second chance, it’s about three! Long story. (haha) So what if you’re getting over someone, or thought you were, and they try to reel you back in? What if while you were getting over them, you met someone who you thought might be the right someone? Just a theory.     Now to come up with a title for all that mumbo-jumbo. I used to love giving a work a title. Now it’s challenging.

Who could eat cereal for dinner? Me, too. Not easy when you have kids hounding you for something that fits more on a plate than a bowl. My husband wasn’t home for dinner tonight and I was like, ‘cereal, anyone?’ Yeah, it didn’t happen. I threw something sloppy together. I hope no one’s stomach is growling like mine. Maybe I’ll go and get those Lucky Charms now!

Here’s to everyone enjoying their week, not questioning the radicalness of answering to an audible sound made just for you (your name), and to me for choosing just the right title for this new book baby I will release in the winter. 🙂

Hooked on a Book

I feel great! I feel driven! I have a new book set to release this summer! Yay! But here’s the thing….I’m hooked on it. Can’t put it down. Can’t stop re-reading it…editing it…thinking of different things to write in it. This is the way I become. It holds me captive. I’m in the zone. Weird, huh? If I’m not careful, the house will crumble around me. Which is how I realize some of us readers feel at times when we’re waist-deep inside a plot and not wanting to face the dreaded ‘what’s for dinner’, or ‘are you going to sleep tonight?’  Yeah, yeah, yeah. After one more chapter!! LOL

Second day of spring here! (As I’m sure it is everywhere). And it snows. All day. As in buries my freshly sprung daffodils, coats my cherry blossoms, and dashes my reality that it’s Wednesday. Because, well you can guess, all of my kids are home. And pulling and tugging me from working and writing on my new book!! Just got word school is closed tomorrow, too. Oh joy!

New book, you ask? What is it about, you ask? What name shall we refer to it? Hmm…well I am at a loss for the title. I’m sure it will come to me. There are so many variations. None of which any of my peeps like. I get the standard eye roll on all of them. Seriously, what do they know? They haven’t even read the thing. 🙂

So it’s about a guy and a girl. Interesting, yeah? Aren’t they all with guys and girls. Well this time said guy and said girl fall in love but never are supposed to. Sort of like Romeo and Juliet. Their houses are not meant to mingle. And so it moves swiftly along to other secrets that eventually see the light of day. It’s what I’m currently hooked on. I mean the laundry is piling up around here! I can’t find socks, washcloths, you name it. I did pull off dinner tonight, though. It pained me, but it got made and consumed. And I managed to bake a pound cake. It was my way of saying, ‘hey kids, I do exist.’

Well, happy weekday everyone! It sure feels like the weekend over here in my part of the world. We’ve got bored kids, the need for 3 meals a day, and lots of yelling for everyone to just get along. The roads will melt soon and all will be back to normal. I hope! Cheers. 🙂

Ready to Start the Weekend!

Aren’t weekends the very best? It’s as if it’s the chocolate covered whatever on the end of the stick, taunting you Monday thru Friday to make it! And make it, I did. We had a busy week, but as I watched the sun rise this fine, Friday morning, I knew it was almost quitting time for the five day struggle. Quitting time in regards to formalities at work. Don’t get me wrong–when Friday approaches, the bon bons don’t magically appear, the robe doesn’t part for me to stand in the middle of it, and the there isn’t a bed found to have me lounging on top of it. Nope, but it does mean I don’t have to punch my daily buttons. I can meander more, think longer, and drop off into daydreams more frequently as I wash clothes and pick up junk that’s gathered on the stairs all week. Speaking of daydreams, I started a new book. Did I mention this? I like it. It’s something I wrote a few years ago, can’t find it for the life of me, so now I’m recreating it. A standalone. I know, shocking, right? Who knows, before it’s all over, I might sequel it. But I promise, no cliffhangers! Learned my lesson there. (Thanks Sarah!)

My son got his tonsils removed. It was quite the ordeal. As a parent you grapple with the questions of should I, or shouldn’t I? When the doctor leaves the question up to you, it’s a bit heavy. He’d gotten 4 strep infections this year. I know what you’re thinking, and that was all before May. It was bam, bam, bam…antibiotic after another. Then they stopped. I’d had the appointment with the specialist and took him anyway. Then it was like, “you can if you want. or you can wait to see if he gets any more.” So I waited. No need in rushing to the operating room I always say. Then they became larger. And I could hear it muffle his voice. Yep, I’m ready. When the surgeon came out after it was all over and done with, he assured me it was a dire situation. His tonsils were almost touching and they’d grown into the walls of his throat. He had to cut them out of the inside walls. I was relieved to have made the right choice. Now he sits, sipping on anything cold. Having not eaten a solid morsel in over 30 hours. I better get ready for the chicken noodle soup and mashed potatoes!

On a brighter note, I’m going to see a screening of my oldest son’s latest film. He directed this one. It’s so exciting to be able to go to a theater as a family to view this. He was in a competition for best picture based on what genre the groups were given to write and produce in a 48 hour window. Yikes. I can’t wait to see them.

I hope whatever plans you have this weekend are finely executed with lots and lots of fun! Till next time.

Reason to Celebrate!!

My sixth book releases today! Who knew? I actually had six of them stored up in this head of mine. Actually a few more, but six spilled out to an editor, where she worked her magic, then it got translated into a picture by another professional, formatted, bound, and viola…there you have book 6, “Searching For Sarah”. I’m quite excited. And a bit nervous…as usual. Good thing I’ve got a tough skin. No telling what the kind people of the world is going to think of it…and then there’s the not-so-kind. And I suppose they have a say, too. (I’ll just discreetly, and with all my might, try to put their opinions out of mind) 🙂

So, what about Sarah? She’s a pretty girl, right? Then why is she a dud magnet for men? I mean really…the last guy she dated stole her U-Haul filled with all her stuff. Right there on the street in Charleston. While she went into that cute coffee shop after driving 8 hours straight, to go to the bathroom. That’s the first push into the path that takes her to this guy:

Sam. So what about Sam? He’s cute, right? He just works a little too much. Therefore, unable to do the all the things a single dad has to do–pick up daughter from preschool, cook a well-balanced meal, (not spaghetti o’, scrambled eggs, and a cup of milk, because that’s all he knows how to cook), and attend an occasional tea party with a few stuffed friends…Mind you, he does get home to read the goodnight book and tuck a sleepy-eyed girl in, but as for the rest, he needs some help. And since Sarah is seeking some temporary housing until an apartment comes through, why not get her to do some of the nanny stuff? Win-win for both of them!

Then the story begins to unfold. So, maybe not that intriguing! But I had one reviewer to say she stayed up till after midnight to finish it. That’s good, huh? Well, I sort of smiled when I read it. 🙂

Either way…it’s my genuine hope…wish…desire…beg (LOL) that readers take a chance to get to know Sarah and Sam. Reminder: this is a 3 part book. At the end, there will be sort of the thing that happens on Friday soap operas…Monday will be the second book–where Friday’s shock gets settled after a weekend wait. Don’t throw tomatoes when you get there. But I promise, Monday is coming very quickly. I’m saving that hype until the release of Friday’s book installment–Searching For Sarah, part 1! Please spread the word, my dearest followers. Cake for everyone!!!! Celebrate. 🙂

Greetings, From One Happy Author

happy-writerToday marks the publication of my fifth book!! Can you believe it? Five….let me think about that for a second. It wasn’t too long ago that I was trying to spit out book 2 in my Amy series. And now Mister Five is debuting. Hard to believe. And all in one year, I might add! I hope this doesn’t come across braggy or anything. That’s one thing I don’t do, but I’m amazed how my year has gone down. I’m happy to have been able to achieve this. I didn’t really set out to do it. I didn’t have a plan at all, really. The words kept coming, the fingers kept moving, and there you have it! Book five, “The Secret He Keeps”, is hitting the market today.

I must admit, I’m a bit nervous about this one. I’ve had some mixed reviews. Some don’t like the ending…or should I say, ‘who done it’. And as you know that all it takes is for one or two people not to like an outcome and poof, there’s that crazy self-doubt…strutting in like he owns the town. In this case, my mind. You see, it begins to wander and pace and think, ‘should I rewrite some things? make it pleasing to the ones that don’t like it?’ Or, should I stand confident that I do like the outcome. I wrote it for Pete’s sake. No, not everyone is going to like everything you write, but be proud of it. It’s your words. It’s your heart inside those pages.

The second reason I could be feeling antsy might be because it’s different from the other books I’ve published. Not so much “A Reason to Stay”, but from Amy. Amy is shy, naive, and borderline G-rated. Rachel, from “The Secret He Keeps’, not so innocent! There is more colorful language, and the storyline is way over on the other end of the spectrum from dear, sweet, innocent Amy. I’m hoping it doesn’t prove to dissapoint my Amy fans.

Aside from all the self-doubt a writer goes through before placing their work in the hands of readers, I’m hoping for great reviews. (fingers crossed) Writing about complicated love and messy people isn’t easy. It’s not predictable, and it gets sticky in situations. For all those who give Rachel a chance, to see what lies behind that locked memory of hers, thank you bunches. After all, she’s just an ordinary woman, suppressing some extraordinary feelings. It’s a technique that’s got her this far, but how will she handle life when all the memories come crashing down?

Here’s my giveaway for someone to take a liking to Amy! She’s still one of my favorites. 🙂 Good luck on winning.

As Fate Would Have It

KEVINLast week I had it all planned out–new book, new characters, and new city. That was last week. And although I rolled that plot around in my head for days, perfecting it, finding the holes, and sewing up others…it got thrown to the back burner! As in, slammed to the back burner. I woke up Friday to an entirely different story. A meatier one. I think I’m going to be two authors. One who writes romantic, light-hearted pieces and another one who writes deeper ones. A little less on the funny side, heavy on the introspect.

So, this one rolling around in my daydreams stars none other than Kevin Costner. Don’t you just love this guy? I think I fell in love with him in “The Bodyguard”, or was it “For Love of the Game”? Take your pick. He’s a total classic.

And then we have Jennifer Garner. She’s such a good girl–wholesome, nurturing, wants to see the best in people. This will be my heroine. Isn’t she pretty? Another classic. Well not really that old to be a classic yet, but give her another ten years.

Jennifer Garner wallpaper (66)I’ve got so much to do on this story, furthermore, so much to do in my real life. Although I am tickled pink to have such a rich story awaiting the pages of my processor, I only have a week to prepare for all the back to school madness. Everyone has received their schedules, most of the supplies have been purchased, and I’m preparing myself for the departure of college boy. Perhaps this sidetrack of a new story came at the perfect time, after all!

The Speed of Summer

budI’m squeezing the last few moments out of July. It seems that seeing the month on the calendar calms my jangly nerves. As though when the title of August appears, along with its picture of a new summer scene, my nerves will be electrifying once more.

August–the month everything changes. My first born goes to college, the others return to school, and routines of packing lunches and beating the buses comes back around. I don’t like August. I wish July would stay. I wish the long days, the noisy nights of frogs croaking, and not having to wake up to an alarm clock would never go away.

On another note…I did enjoy some family time this week. You know, before July goes away. We all went to the movies. This is a rarity, sort of. I’m always the one to stay home. Seeing that I’m not the least bit into super hero sightings, I find myself usually in the quiet hours on my sofa…watching something romantic. Not this time! I went along. We went to see the new Star Trek movie. It was typical. A lot of aliens, a lot of blasting, and more than ever…I didn’t understand a lot that was happening. For instance, how crashed ships could get started and fly again. Especially after the enemy set fire to it. Or how the captain girl suddenly disappeared from her captors. And reappeared with the good guys. But science fiction seems to have that under control. Anything can happen and with very little reality attached. Overall, it was an enjoyable movie. I watched the original series, so I marveled how the new characters reminded me of the oldies but goodies.

I finished my third Amy book in July. That was a miracle, indeed. I am awaiting the edits and then off it goes to print! Exciting really. Although, like August coming within a few days and putting an end to all that’s calm…the final word on the page ended the Amy series. I will miss her, but I’m satisfied with the outcome. I hope my readers will agree.

This morning, as I lay in bed, another story busted in on my thoughts. As in, tore down the door…yelled with beating hands on chest, and identified itself as the next one to be written. I was ecstatic and exhausted at the same time. It’s only been four days since I finished Amy. I’m recuperating from all the bleeding of words that one caused me. Another one? So soon? I choose to look at it as fortune and nothing else. Now I need to get started. I’ve already got my characters picked out. I’m saving them for a new post. I hope you can join me then. 🙂

Cover Reveal for “Leaving Amy”

Leaving Amy digitalI am sooo pleased to share with you, my cover for “Leaving Amy.” It is the second volume in the Amy series. I had so much fun writing this book. I was asked by a reader if I plot things out…do I know the ending before I even begin to write? I’m pretty amazed that my answer was no. That’s only because I’m a really organized person. Planning things is a small hobby of mine. I have 3 calendars dedicated to planning for things. With books, though I have only a general idea where I’m beginning, a so-so idea where it will go, but the ending is ALWAYS a surprise! The ending to this one will not disappoint. I hope.

Amy, as you know from reading the first book, is a bit naïve to the world without her husband. She’s unsure of herself living without an identity outside of marriage. And without spoiling the second book…she grows even more as the pages flip. You’re going to be proud how she handles herself. You’re also going to want to call her up and give her advice on doing some things differently in places. But, have no fear…she gets there! She really does.

I read all the reviews about what a rose-colored wearing glasses girl she is. How some would like to smack her. How others could identify with her. Trust me…Amy exists! I’ve known some Amys personally. But give her time, she unravels the cocoon that has had her trapped. She finds her legs and begins to stand on them. It takes time for people! It will take the third book for her to finally come full circle…but book 2, “Leaving Amy” will not disappoint! I hope everyone who enjoyed the first book will agree.

I left the guy off the cover intentionally. After all, it is “Leaving” Amy. But, I’ll leave this question with all who are following Amy’s journey…”Who’s leaving?”

“Leaving Amy” releases May 1 everywhere! Pre-order at Amazon today. 🙂

Walking on Sunshine

walkingReviews! I’ve gotta say, “I love to read them.” I hear about authors who don’t read them, and I have to wonder why. Sure, there is one out there right now that I scratch my head and wonder what the deal was, but all in all, I’m very happy with all the reviews. I love reading how someone feels about the characters. Their thoughts about Wesley, Mark, and Tom. It’s like eavesdropping on something you said and hearing everyone’s reactions!

I’m happy about all the people who read and liked Amy. She and I have become very close over the past year. And yes! the common characterization of her is to rip those rose-colored glasses off her face, but haven’t you known someone who never gives up? Especially if they’re insecure and all they know is what they know. And they fight tooth and nail to keep it? Sure, you have. At least I know a few Amys!

Anyway, I wanted to share a giveaway that ends very soon. I actually have a few. Goodreads has one that’s running all month, and Fresh Fiction will have another one beginning April 1. This one though is with Amazon. It’s a giveaway for a free copy of “Waking Amy.” So if you haven’t met this girl, enter the contest for a chance to. Her story will continue in two additional books to follow. Don’t miss out on the first one!

I hope you try it out!
