Time for a New Release!

NYE-1936It’s that time again! Book 2 of my Sarah series is hitting the internet waves. I couldn’t be more happy. All the readers who searched for the next page (at the end of the book 1) is finally vindicated. This one takes place five years later and Sarah is finally reaching some normalcy in her life. Time to take time for herself. After all her daughter is getting older, having more play dates than Sarah, and beginning to worry about her mother’s happiness. And just like that! Guys begin coming out of the woodwork…guys that make no sense, guys she shouldn’t have feelings for, and Sam!     I hope everyone who continues Sarah’s journey, likes it!

I’ve been doubling down on wearing my whites this week….it being Labor day very soon, and all. But isn’t that rule sort of changing? I’ve seen white being worn after September. What are they thinking?! 🙂

For those following my adoption journey, it’s going well. Slow and full of paperwork, but well. One thing for sure, everyone in my family has had a physical! I can’t tell you the last time I had a hearing test. Elementary school? And child proof locks? Yeah, after years of not worrying about that, we’ve got ’em. I’ve caught my hand on them a couple hundred times so far. I feel like Homer Simpson everyone time I pull on it and it catches. “Doh!”

My kids are back in school. I don’t love the early mornings, but I love the fact they’re being productive. How many hours can one play Minecraft and not get a paralyzed tush?

Well I’m off to piddle. I’ve got so much to do, but sometimes when you’ve got too much on your plate, all you can do is piddle in it all. If I piddle enough, maybe I’ll achieve something big!

Have a great one! And thanks for your support. 🙂

New Release Set to Roll Out!

julieanndove_thesecrethekeeps_450x675I will admit…this is my favorite book. Well, of mine. I love them all for different reasons, but this one was the beginning of my journey as a writer. I can’t tell you how many drafts this thing has seen. It looks NOTHING like the first one. Or the second one, and certainly not the fifth and sixth one. This thing has morphed into…well, this!

“The Secret He Keeps” has had all kinds of different titles, as well. I entered it into a contest four years ago under the name “Gravity”. It was a finalist, but no cigar, by the way. And then I had “Side Effects of Widowhood”. That stuck for awhile. That was actually my favorite rendition. “The Heart Remembers” has  also been saved with some changes on my computer. Alas, this is the winner of all my indecisiveness. 🙂

I’ve loved writing this in so many ways, too. It began with way more people involved in the plot, too. Then it came down to just two! I so hope you’re going to like them. Rachel is another complicated, messy woman I’ve dreamed up. She’s lost her husband to a car accident. One that she survived. One that provided her with a selective memory of the past. And she has no idea that it’s the very fragile thread that keeps her sane. Not recalling the self-destruction her husband went through is protecting his perfect image she carries in her mind. It’s also protecting the image she has of herself. But someone knows all about it. And you’re not going to believe who it is!

Warning–I’ve written my first clue-type book. I wouldn’t really categorize it as a mystery, but it certainly has a tiny bit of suspense. And just 9 weeks until it releases…

Cover Reveal-A Reason to Stay

A Reason to Stay Cover Web_2This is my new contemporary romance, “A Reason to Stay.” It releases June 1st. It’s quite a different tale than that of Amy. Elise is my heroine and she can handle herself a little better when it comes to men. What she can’t handle is commitment! That’s why when she feels the flutters for her boyfriend, still after 10 months of dating, she knows it’s time to leave. But why would she? This is something she’s working on. To pull out the ol’ “it’s me not you” seems so cliché. But wait…a trip home to Kentucky to help her mother after surgery could be just the ticket. Then again, Kentucky is also home to Ben, the first guy who Elise still feels flutters when she has thoughts of his swagger and delicious smile. What’s a girl to do? Especially if he tracks her down and wants to talk about old times.

I loved writing Elise. She’s a bit like me–a commitment phobic. It’s amazing I even settled down, myself! It’s also probably why I don’t take price tags off things. I need to feel I can return things should I need to. Not that I do a whole lot. 🙂 Well…maybe sometimes.

I’ll blog later about each of my characters in “A Reason to Stay”, and why I enjoyed writing them. Ben…Darren…Lyla…they’re all there! You can see if one stands out as a person you know. I’m sure there is!

And now for a tiny teaser…

Memories of their first time making love, while his parents were away, washed over her and strangled in her throat, forcing her to clear it. Ben looked up.

“Are you alright?”

“Fine.” One word. And for anyone who knew Elise, it was the worst word she could use. He knew it, too.

He fished through his drawers and pulled out a pair of boxer shorts and grabbed a shirt from his closet. She took them from him. Their fingers touched, making her attentive to his reaction. Were there any memories that were haunting him, as she stood inside his room? If there were, she wouldn’t keep her eyes on him long enough to find out. She couldn’t. They knew too much of her.

“You can change in here with me or the bathroom on the right.” A devil-painted-smile crossed his face and a rush of hormones swam through her stomach.

“I’ll take the bathroom.”

Why was he even messing with her? Just get changed and go home. There was no force that could be used against the Pandora box he was attempting to unlock. She peeled off her top and closed her eyes as she slid his shirt over her head, imaging the times before when she wore his clothes. It was like coming home after too long being gone. She smoothed her hair over to the side and pinched her cheeks for color. After taking a long draw of air, she knew that look of hers in the reflection of the mirror. The one that wanted to stay there, for old time’s sake. She pushed the thought away and dropped her wet shorts to the ground and shimmied on the boxer ones he lent her. There was a towel hanging on the back of the door that she used to dry her hair so it would stop dripping.

It was quiet when she opened the door. The kids and Ben had beat her downstairs. She held her wadded wet clothes as she stepped into the kitchen where Ben was pulling out some pots from the cabinets. He had changed into a baseball cotton tee with eye pleasing jeans. Age had perfected him well.

“I’m going to get going, I guess. I’ll make sure Melanie gets your clothes back to you.” Elise stood at the edge of the counter, watching his rendition of a chef on The Cooking Network.

He pretended not to hear her segue for leaving, and filled the large pot with water. “Sit down. I’m going to make dinner.”

“Ben, I have to go.”

“Sit down and relax. Oh, by the way, Darren’s been trying to call you.”

The words streamed in her mind like a foreign language she could not translate. What did he just say? Darren?

Ben read her thoughts. He pointed toward the area by the back door. “Your phone is on the counter and it’s been buzzing. I didn’t mean to look, but his picture kept coming up. Still have a fetish for dark haired men, I see.”

Elise remained quiet. Anything she said could be used against her. More importantly, she hated answering questions about her life. The one she hoped to leave safely back in California. Traps and snares never put her in a good mood. She walked around to the counter where her phone lay and took it, trying to put it in her pocket. When she realized the shorts she had on had none, she held it down by her side.

“You’re not going to call him back?” Ben said, turning on the stove.

“I’ll call later.” Answer given. Now move on. Please, move on.

“Who is Darren?”

Ever the non-committer. “A friend.”

“A friend?” A note of skepticism was in his tone. Did he know the real Elise Newton too well?

Cover Reveal for “Leaving Amy”

Leaving Amy digitalI am sooo pleased to share with you, my cover for “Leaving Amy.” It is the second volume in the Amy series. I had so much fun writing this book. I was asked by a reader if I plot things out…do I know the ending before I even begin to write? I’m pretty amazed that my answer was no. That’s only because I’m a really organized person. Planning things is a small hobby of mine. I have 3 calendars dedicated to planning for things. With books, though I have only a general idea where I’m beginning, a so-so idea where it will go, but the ending is ALWAYS a surprise! The ending to this one will not disappoint. I hope.

Amy, as you know from reading the first book, is a bit naïve to the world without her husband. She’s unsure of herself living without an identity outside of marriage. And without spoiling the second book…she grows even more as the pages flip. You’re going to be proud how she handles herself. You’re also going to want to call her up and give her advice on doing some things differently in places. But, have no fear…she gets there! She really does.

I read all the reviews about what a rose-colored wearing glasses girl she is. How some would like to smack her. How others could identify with her. Trust me…Amy exists! I’ve known some Amys personally. But give her time, she unravels the cocoon that has had her trapped. She finds her legs and begins to stand on them. It takes time for people! It will take the third book for her to finally come full circle…but book 2, “Leaving Amy” will not disappoint! I hope everyone who enjoyed the first book will agree.

I left the guy off the cover intentionally. After all, it is “Leaving” Amy. But, I’ll leave this question with all who are following Amy’s journey…”Who’s leaving?”

“Leaving Amy” releases May 1 everywhere! Pre-order at Amazon today. 🙂
